How I Built My $10,000 Substack From Scratch
The post I promised myself I'd write if I ever hit five figures and well, here it is...
What I dislike, more than anything on Substack, are posts by people who say ‘let me tell you the secret to building a super successful substack’ and then once you pay to read, you discover that their ‘secret’ was that they imported a huge email list.
This is not that post.
Not all of us have huge email lists to import, not all of us have been very good at this new digital world we find ourselves inhabiting (Gen X-ers and beyond, I’m looking at you, or perhaps maybe I’m just staring at my own reflection).
I promised myself that if I ever got to make five figures on my Substack, I would write a piece explaining how I did it, and so when I received this rather lovely graphic last week, I knew it was time to write something.
The answers you will find in this post do not – you will now not be surprised to know – involve importing a huge email list, but they are instead things I believe anyone can do if you are willing to make the commitment to your writing and this platform.
However, this post is behind a paywall because, you know, I value my own time and my own writing and I hope you do too, and I have explained all that reasoning before here:
I do think this post will give you some food for thought about how to build your own Substack, so no surprises, here comes the paywall – I hope to see you on the other side.
