A painting by my friend, Kelly Preedy

One of my new year’s resolutions (I have two), is to watch more films, and a friend of mine, Kelly, is a great one for passing on recommendations. She posts them on her instagram (@KellyPreedyCreative) and so I’m currently working my way through her film/telly 2024/2025 recs.

I’ve been planning on sharing some of these with you, almost like an accountability to myself to keep up with my new year’s resolution, and then of course, this week we heard of the death of David Lynch and so it felt even more timely that I do so.

Another ‘coincidence’ if you like is that David was a huge fan of meditating, which he did every day, twice a day, and he said it gave him ‘effortless access to unlimited reserves of energy, creativity and happiness deep within.’

His preferred type was transcendental meditation and I’m a fan of meditating myself but, like many of us, often fall out of my daily habit. Since the beginning of December, I committed with a friend to do an abundance meditation every day and we text each other when we’re done to prompt the other. It’s a good meditation which I often turn to (I’ll share it at the bottom of the page), and I have to say I feel very abundant at the moment as a result. For example, almost three thousand of you are new here so I am abundant in free subscribers! One hundred of you have decided to support my work by becoming a paid subscriber since I started these meditations, and if you want to make it 101, then please feel free to upgrade here:

It is no exaggeration to say that my paid subscribers are the ones who buy me time to write posts like this one, which has had almost 140,000 reads since I pressed publish on December 20.

So you see, abundance, abundance, abundance!

But before I get to the film recommendations, which are going to be behind the paywall for my paid subscribers because, as above, they help me to pay the bills and so I like to nurture them in return (we also get to continue conversations in my private chat, so you know, there’s another benefit of upgrading – come join the chat), I wanted to tell you that as well as passing on fine film recommendations, my friend Kelly is also a wonderful artist. She painted the beautiful image of David Lynch at the top of this page and I asked her yesterday if she would make it available for my subscribers to buy. She is currently selling signed prints for £80 (I’m guessing plus postage and packing, but you can check with her directly), and she is going to donate half of each sale to The David Lynch Foundation. So what a way to honour his legacy, and have a beautiful portrait of him in your home.

You can contact Kelly through her website: kellypreedy.co.uk or email her kelly.preedy@gmail.com.

She also does beautiful portraits of pets and toys, look at this gorgeous one she did of my daughter’s bestfriend, Ra, a few years ago.

Ra in the Wild – look at his gorgeous face!

Anyway, to the films I’ve been watching and enjoying, and as promised, here comes the paywall. I’d be thrilled to see you on the other side…
