I have been so blown away by the response to the piece that I wrote on the Gisele Pelicot case, many people have messaged me to say it’s gone viral, though I’m not sure exactly what counts as ‘viral’.

If you have not had chance to read it yet, then you can find it here:

I just did a Substack live, discussing a few more thoughts that I’ve had since posting, because you will see in the video that I wrote it very quickly and wanted to grab all those thoughts. I have been writing essays for nearly thirty years and, as a journalist, I am used to writing quickly and so I think I have this internal metronome which just brings a piece together. It is something I have honed and perhaps why it hit the right chords for you at the time you needed it most because look, we all can intellectualise issues such as these but more importantly we feel them viscerally.

Anyway, I didn’t plan to go live, and so you’ll see, I was not prepared, but there are so many other things to discuss on this topic and so I’d love to hear more of your thoughts.

Usually this Sunday would be my Sunday Shelfie day (where an author talks us through their bookshelves), but I’m going to press pause on that today just so we can talk about this case a little more.

So feel free to add your thoughts, and there was a question in there from someone about the construction of the essay so if you wanted to know anything more about that (as I know there are many, many writers among my subscribers) then feel free to ask that too.

As always a reminder that your support in helping me have time to write is always so much appreciated, I wanted my initial post to be free because I felt it was something a lot of women needed to hear, to heal, but if you can afford it, do consider upgrading to paid as it helps me to write more posts like this one for you. There is lots for you here on White Ink, including my monthly meet up on zoom which is always a wonderfully supportive community of women writers and I’d love to see you at the next one.

I would love to know more of your thoughts on this case, and perhaps where we go from here. And the big question from many of you as I address in my video is, why aren’t the men sharing?!

See you in the comments…
