A lot of writing, is waiting. Waiting for an idea. Waiting to get going while you do your research. Waiting for time to start writing.

When I was ghosting books, my work writing other people’s books for them would buy me time to write. Often I had to wait months whilst writing their books to get to my own.

If you have an agent, you are often waiting: waiting for them to look at an idea of yours; or read your manuscript; or waiting for them to get back to you with news when your book goes out on submission.

I used to eat chocolate a lot during that last one, but now (as a result?) I have gallstones, so I don’t do so much of that anymore.
