If you missed our White Ink monthly meet-up tonight, here’s your chance to catch up. I don’t usually record these sessions as often we spend an element of time doing a writing exercise and not all people want to share, but — due to popular demand (two people) — I recorded tonight’s session as an experiment.
So, that means that if you have been wondering whether you want to start coming along on the first Monday of each month (sometimes Sunday), then you can have a little taster of what you’ve been missing out on by upgrading here:
Plus tonight we chatted so much that we didn’t get round to doing the writing exercise, which is quite a fun one, and so not only will you get an hour of literary chat by upgrading, you’ll also get access to the writing exercise.
So what did we discuss? Well, it seemed only right to spend a bit of time talking about The Salt Path scandal, but unlike the chat that and I did yesterday on Substack Live, I wanted to hear what you thought about it as readers of the book. We also discussed a little more of what this means for the memoir genre — will it be a good thing? Here’s hoping.
Next, I gave us a little walk through autofiction. What is it? How does that definition differ? Is it the grey area of literature? Might it help unlock your writing? We talked about some books that are marketed as autofiction, including this one, Bear by Marian Engel. Apparently I was blushing with the memory of reading it on the call!
All in all a lovely hour spent together, I’d love to see many more of you next time, and I hope you enjoy catching up on the recording. The writing exercise is also beyond the paywall, and I’d love to know in the comments where it takes you…
