For the two years on my Substack, I have run a little series over the Christmas holidays. It is called Twelve Days of Christmas Writing Advice, and it starts - obviously - on Christmas Day running right the way through until Twelfth Night when we all take down our decorations and set our writing intentions for the year ahead.
I absolutely love this series, and those who have followed me for a while will be pleased to know it is making its return this year.
Each day of the twelve, a different author will share with you their best writing advice, and there are some absolute gems among them.
So, in readiness for this year’s series, I’ve taken down the paywall for the first series and I’ve listed them all in this post for your delectation.
This is a brilliant resource for writers and a great place for readers to learn a little more about how their favourite writers write. There are, in fact, so many posts that I see this post will be too long for your email, so you may have to click on ‘view entire message’ if you aren’t reading in the App.
To ensure you receive this year’s Twelve Days of Christmas Writing Advice straight in your inbox make sure you’re subscribed here:
And not too long now to wait and see which guest authors I’ve got lined up for you this year.
Enjoy catching up in the meantime!

It’s day six, we’ve reached the half way point. What have you learnt over the last few days? Has it made you view your current work in progress any differently? Let me know in the comments, or share on social media.
On The Seventh Day of Christmas
Here we are, day seven, New Year’s Eve and we are about to say goodbye to 2021 and see what 2022 has in store for us. For me and today’s mystery author it will be the our debut novels release in paperback.
On The Ninth Day of Christmas

Here we are on day ten, have you found this series helpful? Myself and all the authors who have taken time to contribute would love to know.
On The Eleventh Day of Christmas
Day Eleven, so nearly there, and then I shall put my feet up and get on with my own writing for the year. I am sure it will be all the better for having read the advice we have received over the last ten days, and still we have two authors to go. So, let’s meet our penultimate author…
On The Twelfth Day of Christmas
We have made it! The decorations are down, the kids are back to school, the last of the mince pies are stale now anyway, and the twelve days of Christmas are over!
