Thanks for sharing this Anna. What a great ghost job. So necessary to hear these shocking experiences. Robin, half Indian, half German, had similar racist attacks growing up in north London in the 1960s, some of which scarred him for life. He dealt with it by becoming a black belt in karate. It takes amazing tenacity to become a police officer in such systemic racism.

I could never understand the cruelty imposed on people because of their culture. It's not just a U.S. problem, it's a world problem. Thank you for shedding some light and reminding us that perseverance does initiate change. We must NEVER give up!

This sounds like a brilliantly powerful book. Nusrit sounds like an absolute legend, so glad you've been able to get her story out into the world. Hope it gets plenty of good publicity.

I have two women friends – identical twins born to Chinese parents and adopted by a white Scottish couple soon after birth – who now both work for Police Scotland. They are hard as nails, but the stories they tell show that systemic mysoginy and racism still are rife.
