That’s the hope, Ros, and I know that when The Ghostwriters Agency started this was their ambition, but what they found is that they negotiated a good fee and when they put it out for tender many people offered to do it for less, which defeated all their hard work in the first place of getting the fees up. Perhaps this says something about how desperate people are, as Alexander said, but this is why I believe nobody should write for free as it cheapens the industry for everyone.
Urgh, I know, Bonnie. I’m constantly depressed at how much publishers pay celebrities and influencers. Though I feel like the bubble is starting to burst as they just aren’t getting the sales. Hopefully they’ll return to supporting real writers soon!
Let’s hope so! How can an industry and the writers who work so hard within it be a success, when so much money is being wasted on celebrities who won’t even write the book, when the person who IS writing it gets less than a tenth of the payment!?!? Enraging!
I would also love to see figures on the ratio of male to female ghost writers, compared with the ratio of males to females who have their books ghosted for them. My hunch is that this would reveal a large number of poorly paid and highly skilled women writing books for less talented men, better paid men who are taking the credit. I hope I'm wrong!
I love that we have some transparency on this now. Thanks for sharing, Anna. It will perhaps help women in the UK set better prices and close the gap.

This is fascinating. I had no idea of the range of fees - and that Russell Brand example! For God’s sake!!!
