I love what Suzanne said that if the left won’t have a sensible conversation about this, the right will have it. Such a missed opportunity for the left.
such an interesting discussion - the art of nuance, curious minds, - I do find it so odd that having strongly held opinions becomes more important than the content? Hyperbole leads the way. The catnip of outrage in traditional media outlets is so depressing.
Surely the interest also lies with the fact we can have very different views on the same subject - that is where the creativity and interest is - surely? the why this happens and discuss this with passion and calmness. Great breakthroughs come through exploration, of not knowing of being uncertain.
Thanks Lucy, you’re so right about how the creativity, the development, the intelligence is in the grey area, in the ability to tolerate a different point of view to your own, an ability also TO CHANGE YOUR MIND. This is something that people feel is an absolute no-no, and yet how many times have you changed your mind in your life as age and experience have taught you? I know I have. I cringe at some of the things I said and thought when I was younger, but I don’t regret saying them. It was all part of my character development and hopefully I’ll change my mind a lot in the next forty years too!

So true, and that is exactly what has played out, sadly.
