I’ve started re- selling my books to World of Books rather than give them to charity shops as they pay loyalties through the Author Share Scheme to authors registered with it. I’m assuming books donated to libraries will generate some income for authors too but I hope platforms like Substack will start to shift more power back to authors and independent booksellers as awareness is raised. More needs to be done though
Their ethics seem really good as part of the circular economy, and although they do sell second hand books through Amazon they sell directly too and deliver quickly.
I avoid Amazon as much as I can and don't buy books from them. My small town independent book seller is a gift to the community and there are so many others that we need to keep alive.
That’s right, Sue and also authors can also have affiliate pages on bookshop.org and can get money each time a book they have recommended sells. Not all authors know this either.
Libraries are amazing and often will buy a book when you request it - well here in Ireland. I also use World of Books and Blackstones who offer free delivery.
Avoid Amazon like the plague and always try World of Books for a title I want as well as indies (WOB sometimes have the odd recent book, maybe review copies?), didn’t know about the money to authors from selling back to them (have noticed prices are low, but I guess every bit helps and they do have arrangements for local drop off of packages and app is easy to use).

I didn’t know that about World of Books, Jaimie. That’s good to know.

Yes we must, Nancy!
Bookshop.org also allow you to select a local indie to support (they get a cut of the cost of book you buy)

Great to know about borrowing from a library - I had no idea
Yes definitely, Sarina. I’m sure there are many, many people who don’t know that and libraries are closing left, right and centre 😔
That’s tragic
