Wendy Mitchell recommended your post and I really enjoyed it. I wholly agree with you about regulating the flow of information. I watch a bit of news (Al Jazeera) with my cornflakes, and listen to PM/Six O’Clock News, which is quite enough for me. Otherwise, Radio 3 has been my most constant companion the last two years and it works very well to soothe the mind.
I did especially find your comment on our brains not being built to ingest this much doom/information of particular interest. Again, I agree whole-heartedly but am curious to know whether your choice of words here in referring to our brains being built reflects a belief in creation rather than evolution, or that there is general paucity of words to describe the latter processes?
I am persuaded to believe in a Creator and that life has a purpose, and that indeed, it was never the intention for humans to have the experience we have had down through the ages. Although testifying to the quality of the build that we can endure grievous hardships it certainly takes a toll on us, especially these last two years. As a counteractive to the “doom”, I find the Bible a source of comfort and good news, for example, a verse that encourages me to remain positive about the future is Jeremiah 29:11, “’For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you,’ declares Jehovah, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope.’”
It also includes much practical wisdom Proverbs 12:25 says “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up.” Kind, compassionate words from others can lift our spirits so along with building walls to contain troubling news, it good to know there are sources of comfort too. https://www.jw.org/en/library/magazines/awake-no1-2020-mar-apr/how-to-deal-with-stress/
