Welcome to White Ink!
Hi! So nice to ‘meet’ you, thank you for visiting my Substack, White Ink, I do hope you’ll stick around, but firstly you’re going to need to know what I have for you here, right?
Firstly, a little about me…
I’m a writer with 30 years experience writing for national newspapers and magazines, you’ll find my words in The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, The Sunday Times Magazine, The Times, The Observer, and The i Paper, to name but a few.
All these decades writing for newspapers mean that I write fast and I love responding to current affairs and getting the conversation going, so you will find pieces like this in White Ink:
Or this, published the week of Donald Trump’s criminal trial:
Or this, published the week Alexei Navalny was killed:
I am also a writer of books for major UK and international publishing houses. Over the last decade, I have written ten books including my debut novel, The Imposter. My ‘day job’ is as a ghostwriter/co-writer, and many of my books have been Sunday Times Bestsellers, Radio Four Book of the Week, Richard and Judy Book Club Pick, and nominated for prizes, including The Orwell Prize – Britain’s biggest political writing prize.
And so I also write posts like these, which give you an insight into the publishing world, plus tips and craft advice for your own writing practice and ambitions:
I’ve also been a Substack Featured Publication THREE TIMES in 2024, and so, you could say, I know my onions:
But what does White Ink have for you?
Well, firstly, my Write With Me Club, a monthly online creative writing group. This is a bespoke space that will give you help, guidance, new ideas and a professional who you can call on for advice on your own writing.
Accountability and community – this is a big one that every writer needs no matter how experienced you are. Being a member of White ink means we check in each month in my Write With Me Club to see how your work in progress is coming along.
My archive – this is jam-packed with material, tips and practical advice about writing.
As a regular subscriber, you get just one free post a month, but as a paid subscriber you get all this for just a few pounds/dollars a month:
BUT that’s not all… You also get:
Guest author posts and all the writing craft wisdom they have shared. You can find all those here.
Access to my Sunday Shelfie series, where authors open up their bookshelves and walk you through what they’ve got on them.
Some of my most personal essays exploring grief, parenthood, marriage, infidelity, and divorce
Plus a chance to join us in the comments and, in the not too distant future, support each other’s work as I introduce workshopping.
So, pretty cool, right?
As a free subscriber, it might be frustrating not to have access to all of my content, but I explain here why I took the decision after a long time on Substack to go all paid.
And so, all that remains to be said is I would love to see you on the other side of that paywall. I hope you’ll agree there is a lot waiting for you back here, and more being added all the time, so… come join me!
