Welcome to my Substack!

First of all, a little introduction to me:

I have been a print and broadcast journalist for more than 27 years, writing for newspapers including The Times, The Guardian, The Observer, The Telegraph and The Sunday Times Magazine. I was formally an executive editor at the Daily Mail.
I have ghostwritten seven memoirs including the Sunday Times bestsellers, Somebody I Used to Know and What I Wish People Knew About Dementia by Wendy Mitchell, and the Orwell Prize longlisted, CUT: One Woman's Fight Against FGM in Britain Today by Hibo Wardere. My debut novel, The Imposter, was published in April 2021 by Pan Macmillan.

My whole career in newspapers, magazine and books has been about empowering people’s voices, writing fierce polemic, and tackling controversial issues of the day.

You will find here all that I have learnt along this journey. I will share writing advice of my own, whether that is fiction or non-fiction. I will share the writing advice of others. I will encourage you to use the power of your words. I will share my views on topics I feel passionately about.

Think of this Substack as the home of empowering both your voice and mine.

I am also running a mentoring scheme at the moment for working class aspiring writers. You can apply each month to receive free mentoring, so subscribe to be first to hear when applications open.
